‘Reflecting on a great national champs for us. But sport is tough.
Among our athletes tasting the bitter ashes of defeat were…
Eimear Maher, a brilliant 1500 race but pipped in the last few strides for a place in the European champs…
Elizabeth Ndudi, beaten for the gold medal by 5 cms – no Europeans.
Captain Ciarán Carthy – ill for the 400m and ran out of legs to finish 6th
Andrew McGilton loses a shoe in his 800 heat and had to run 350m in his size 11 socks.
And Ella Fennelly’s p.b. in the 5,000, a slightly irritating 16:00:34.
Performance of the week: Sharon Wilson’s appeal for Andrew McGilton (see above).
Meanwhile…
Your board members spent a half day hatching a cunning 5-year plan: To be presented to the members at the AGM on 21st September .
Anyone who is interested in joining the board, or one of the other sub committees (Finance and Risk, Athletics, Juvenile Coaching, Facilities), or becoming a Captain, contact me for a warm embrace (chair@dsdathletics.ie).
Phase 3 works enter their final week, and I will be very proud to introduce members to the splendid new facilities.
And we get ready to defend the national league titles…
