Championships report by Julie Trundle, photos by all … many thanks

The Dublin Indoors day 2 and 3 are over and it was a very successful weekend for our 2014’s. It is a bumper year for Athletes, with 280 entered at this age group in Dublin and incredibly 40 of those coming from DSD. We may have created a club record as there was a phenomenal 82 PB’s amongst our 2014’s!

Big thanks to all the parents bringing their Athletes out, as a quick look at schedules and realising you could be out there for 8 hours each day is daunting, but the enjoyment seen on all the faces make it worthwhile. A special shout out for parents of the Girls long jump who after paying €5 to enter the warm indoor arena had to go back outside, find their warm Cross-country gear to stand in the freezing cold and watch through a large window at the double LJ pits to see their Athletes perform. Congratulations to all the kids and well done to Ciara and Martha making the final and hitting new PB’s.

With So many athletes entered in the 2014 age group it is very hard to make a podium or even the top 8.  While our kids shone in the enjoyment performing in front of a loud crowd and supporting each other they also surpassed expectations in their personal achievements. Every single one of our 40 athletes achieved a PB in at least one event, showing their improvements and commitment and they all deserve to be celebrated. Make sure you let them know, we are very proud of their achievements in only the first of the Track and Field events this year.

There were some incredible performances, Stephen finishing 3rd in his 60m Heat and Sean finishing 2nd in his and making the Semi-final.  Alex entering 6 events and finishing top 8 in 3 Pole vault, High Jump and Shot Putt. Martha, Leila, Siena all winning their 60m Heats. An incredible 600m race from Ciara just missing out on top 4. Julianna, when everyone else was tiring, pulling out a 6th and final throw of 7.51 in the Shot putt.

However, on top of the personal bests, out of 161 athletes in the 60m, we had 5 athletes make the semi-finals, 3 make the final and we had a Medallist.

Across the 11 events for the 2014’s this weekend we had 12 make the finals and 4 surpass all and were rewarded with Gold. 🥇

🥇Alex Teggin Gold In Pole Vault
The first of 2014 Pole Vaulters soaring over 1.60 paving the way to hopefully seeing more.

🥇 Sienna Jones Gold in 60m
Incredible speed not only outstripping 2014’s with a final sprint of 8.33 sec. This time was even faster than the 2013!

🥇 Sophia Stanley Gold in 600m
Stamina and speed , went out hard and kept going for an incredible time of 1:47:55

🥇 Mia Trundle Gold in Shot Putt
Every Shot throw was over 8metres, well ahead of her 2025 PB . She had a winning throw of 8.91 metres.

Next week we have another 34 Athletes in the Relays and then the lucky few will be planning a weekend in Athlone on the 28th and 29th of March for the National Championships.

Well done kids, you did brilliant this weekend 🙌🏻

Many thanks to all the Parents and Coach’s who volunteered their time over the weekend, we are very lucky to have such great Coach’s and helpers that allow the kids have such a great time.
