Many thanks Liz McDonnagh for report below:
Eimear Maher produced an outstanding breakthrough performance over 1500m in Belfast on Saturday.
Eimear produced a blistering last lap to move from 4th to 2nd and record a time of 4.14.8 – an 8 second improvement over her previous personal best.
The time secures one of the required two Euro U23 qualifying times needed to compete at the Europeans U23 championships in Norway this summer.
Earlier in the day Emma McEvoy set the tone with a super performance finishing 5th in the 3000m in a huge PB of 9.17.8 (a 9 second improvement on her previous PB). Emma ran with the leaders for most of the race only falling away over the last lap. Emma’s time also secures one of the required two Euro U23 qualifying times she needs for the summer championships.
Amy O’Donoghue opened her season in Belfast also competing in the 3K, finishing just ahead of Emma in 4th in what was a significant personal best of 9.16.93 – this is a great season opener for the 1500m specialist.
